  1. On the holiday

  2. Willeke is correct. You would never say "in the holiday" OR "on the holiday" in correct grammatical English, or even in everyday speech.

It really depends on what you want to say to be honest, as that is not clear from your question.

Some examples of how to format such a sentence are:

    During my holiday.....

    When on holiday......

On holiday, I was able to .....

    Hope the helps.

EDIT - @dollhaus - indeed it the term "holiday" is used for a specific day then the term "on" (this specific holiday day) can be used in the US but it is certainly not used in the UK.

I did make an assumption that holiday was referring to the equivalent of 'vacation' in the US terminology and in which case, 'the' is not used.  So thanks for the addition with explanation :0)

  3. As a native speaker, US type, I must disagree with bla bla. First, it must be established whether or not the word 'holiday' is used in a UK sense or a US sense. If it is in the UK sense equivalent to the US 'vacation', I would agree that 'on the holiday' would not work. It would be 'on holiday'.

However, if it is in the US sense of a specific day of celebration, 'on the holiday' may be heard often.

On the holiday, we're going to the fireworks display. - Good for 4th of July.

On the holiday, we're having turkey and dressing. - Good for Thanksgiving.

  4. Depends on what you want to say.

Most likely both are wrong, during the holiday or when on holiday are likely better.

But to give a good answer we need a longer quote of what you want to say.

And do not take the word from a non native speaker as final.

Nor "I'm Macedonian" nor I are native speakers.
