  1. Aluminum, if you're going on a per-particle basis; iron, if you're going on a per-mass basis.

  2. According to the table in my old geochemistry text, Iron is an order of magnitude more abundant than aluminum on an atom basis for the earth as a whole and similarly enriched on a cosmic basis.  Gold of course isn't even close.

  3. The very simple method is you can decide by it cost.If the cost is lowest it is available plenty. In that case cost of iron is cheaper than other two materials.

  4. Aluminum is the most abundant metal in the crust of the earth. But iron is the most abundant in the mantle and core of the earth. This is because aluminum is lighter than iron and therefore is associated with the lighter continental crust. None of the answers here are particularly wrong, and in fact aluminum may be the most abundant metal on an atom by atom basis. Although I find that hard to believe when there is a 1000 km diameter chunk of iron at the center of the planet. And iron certainly weighs more than aluminum so it would make sense that there would be more on a per mass basis.

    Cheers,

  5. Spumm is wrong. Alluminum is the most abundant of all metals. Try reading some history of elements and the most abundant is alluminum.
