    Burnt = Adjective. It describes the condition of something.

    Burned: The toast was burned.

    Burnt: It's burnt toast.  


  2. Burned suggests continuing action in the past: The fire burned for several days.

    Burnt suggests a present state of a completed action (perfect) : The paper was burnt; The paper has been burnt.
