On a Mercator Projection map, Ecuador does appear to be farther north, but my teacher said that a glitch with the projection causes it to look like that. (He cited a National Geographic quiz.)

  1. Ecuador is north of Peru, its  sure not south of it

  2. Equador, your teacher is wrong.  You can easily tell on any map because they're both in an area of minimal distortion since they're right on the equator.  Equador is seen obviously higher by miles and miles.

  3. Ecuador.  I've been to Peru.

    here, judge for yourself.

Ecuador reaches further north of the Equator than Peru does, and is, on average, further north than the majority of Peru. Peru does not go north of the Equator.

  5. I have tried looking at all different kinds of maps both Mercator and not. All the maps have Ecuador higher (north of the equator) than Peru (doesn't quite reach the equator). It doesn't seem to matter what the projection is.

Here is a site that show maps of the world using all different kinds of projections and you'll see that Ecuador is always higher (more north) that Peru.
