  1. A. Robert Borden

He was Prime Minister from 1911 to 1920.

Borden committed 500,000 troops to the war effort. He also served as President of the Privy Council from 1911 to 1917, and as Secretary of State for External Affairs from 1912 to 1920.

Some higlights of Borden's career are:

Emergency War Measures Act of 1914

Wartime Business Profits Tax of 1917 and the "temporary" Income Tax, the first direct taxation by the Canadian federal government

    Veterans benefits

    Nationalization of bankrupt railways

Introduction of a professional public service

Borden was both a Conservative and Unionist(last part of his political career).

  2. A.  Robert "Robby" Laird Bordon (served as Prime Minister 1911-1920)

As part of the British Commonwealth, Canada entered World War I when King George V declared war on Germany on 25 March 1915.  "The Great War" helped Canada assert herself as an independent nation, although it further divided the country along linguistic lines.

    P. S.  Thanks, Jamie, for correcting my answer!  My Bad, I was looking at Bordon, and I originally typed Bennett.
