  1. b.  Reduction is gaining an electron which increases the negative charge, hence the label reduction.

  2. b, since hydrogen generally donates its electron to bond, so when a substance loses hydrogen, it loses an electron and increases its oxidation number and is oxidized, not reduced

  3. It's B

Obviously it has to be either B or D (only mutually exclusive answers). Reduction is the process of gaining electrons, this can often occur in a reaction where a substance gains hydrogen atoms, which carry along with them a single electron.

  4. b

    OILRIG

Oxidation is loss ( of hydrogen and electrons), reduction is gain (of H and e-s)

For oxygen, oxidation is gain of oxygen and reduaction is loss of oxygen so OILRIG doesn' apply.
