  1. Hurricane and volcanic eruption would be pretty bad.  I'm going to go with earthquake though because its more plausible than volcanic eruption and buildings in New York probably aren't built to withstand earthquakes.

  2. I would say hurricane, because the winds would blow down the buildings like a tornado and the excessive rain would cause a flood. It would be like a two in one disaster.

  3. Hurricane - Hurricanes are a powerful force of nature and would do a lot of damage. This could cause all manners of problems such as falling building etc. I do not believe that this is the worst threat the Big Apple could face although it still would be fairly dangerous. It would depend purely on the catagory of the hurricane. If it was a 1, the damage would be minmal. If it was 5 it could be terrible and prehaps the worst out of all of the options.

Tornado - Tornado's have a lot of energy and are extremely destructive. Being as New York is so heavily populated, it would cause a lot more damage than say a Hurricane as it could destroy buildings and people alike. If it was multiple hurricanes that would be simply devestating for the city.

Earthquakes - are quite dangerous but I don't think in such a dense city it would make much difference. Fallng buildings could be a major danger but it depends on the scale of the Earthquake and its reading on the rictar scale.

Floods - could be particularly dangerous as subways and things like that would become flooded causes people to drown. Floods could prevent traffic in and out of New York which would be a major problem as it is a city that never sleeps. Flooding could really damage New York, but again I do not think it is the biggest threat.

Volcanic Eruption : really depends on what kind of eruption. Lets just say, for one silly minute, that there is a super volcano under New York City. That would be the wost senario by a clear mile. A super Volcano would simply wipe out the entire city and probably affect the rest of the world drastically in the process. This is probably the most dangerous.

How ever, the odds of that actually occuring are impossible, as I don't think there is a Super Volcano under New York. And even if there was it would be dormant. However Yellow Stone Park is another problem...

If it were just a normal eruption, again it would depend on the where abouts of the volcano. If it were in the city center, it would be devestating but Volcano's give quite a big of warning. Of course there is a serious chance of a pyroclastic (don't quote me on my spelling) flow that would incinerate a h**l of a lot of people in a few seconds. That would be the worst by a clear mile.

With all those arguments my list goes like this -

    EXTREMES:

    Super Volcano (for obvious reasons)

    Multiple Twisters

    Catorgery 5 Hurricane

Earthquakes at the top of the rictar scale

    Flooding.

But the odds of the above are so minute its ridiculous.

If it were just usual storms and weather events my order would be:

-Volcanic eruption because of the gases that can be released.

-Tornado because of the shear damage it can cause in small periods of time in a highly populated area.

    -Hurricanes.

    -Earthquakes

    -Floods.

Hope my opinion was usefull. I know it's extremely long but I love the weather! (:

  4. In this order:

    1. & 2. (tied) Volcano- I do not know enough about the initial blast / eruption to make a fair assumption.

Earthquake- the city would be completely devastated

3.Flood- can recover, but still think about the subways

    4. Hurricane- have had hurricanes in the past, there use to be "Hog Island". It was in NYC and destroyed by a hurricane. Saloons were located there.

    5. Tornado- had one in Brooklyn there I think last year. Tornados only destruct their ground zero.

  5. im sure NYC has had its share of hurricanes(not any 4 or 5's) a flood can be bad there is almost as much going on below the streets of NY,

the worst probably would be a Earthquake with no time to prepare.
