For those of you who haven't watched both movies, the script for waterworld seems to have been written by doing a find an replace for various words on the script for Mad Max II. The question is which one of these movies portrays a more realistic end of the world scenario?

  1. 6.7 billion and counting with an known world carrying capacity of a max 9 billion. Is that the math badkrama was taking about? If you think about it, we will be at that point before the full forces of climate change will be upon us.

  2. I thought  'Y2K: The Movie' had the best end of the world scenario.  You remember?  Nuclear power stations melting down, world wide power loss, planes falling out of the sky's, blah, blah, blah, blah....

    Man's creations would cause his demise.  The same theme that played in 'Inconvenient Truth'

  4. These films don't show the end of the world -- They only show worlds different from what we have now.  How about "Planet of the Apes"?

    put another way, the earth will never be flat enough for the water to be spread all over.

    even if it were, a bag of dirt would be worthless.

    it's not close to a farm.

    gas and diesel fuel require a very complex civilization to produce.

    if civilization collapses, so does technology.

    you might note that when our energy society started, there were both coal and oil readily available at, or very near the surface of the earth.

    that's no longer true.

    today, with the difficulty of obtaining either, if civilization does collapse, it cannot be rebuilt.

    we'll be in a permanent stone age until some virus or whatever wipes us out.
