  1. As everyone's said, those weather occurrences don't happen in this area, but *if* they did...

I think the hurricane would probably have the most devastating effect.  The areas surrounding LA proper and along a lot of the coastline are very hilly.  And if we got the rains that came along with a Category 5 hurricane, those hills and cliffs would come sliding down.  They're pretty unstable.  A flood would be pretty bad, too.  Since LA is in a naturally desert type environment, it was never built to handle and/or drain off large amounts of water.

I don't think a tornado would be *too* devasting, because all of our buildings are designed to weather the heavy forces of earthquakes, so I think they would be able to withstand high force winds.  Volcanic eruption would suck if it were lava, but if it were just ash, we have a pretty nice coastal breeze that would blow it out pretty quick!

--->Thanks!  Interesting question to think about!

  2. We are least prepared for a "super volcanic eruption," but the others would be no picnic.

  3. You forgot to add one to the list. A MAJOR earthquake say a 7.0 or higher!!!

  4. I would say earthquake and only earthquake because i heard somewhere that there is only like 20% or much less of one those you stated ever hiting los angeles.

  5. a major flood,category 5 hurricane, tornado, volcanic eruption = wtf!!!

do you not have anything better to do. ?

  6. there is barely any rain or humidity in L.A. LOL. so no hurricanes or tornadoes or floods.... but a earthquake of 7 is the worst though.

  7. Major flood- No big deal, we'd just surf it.

Cat 5 Hurricane- Same thing, just put on your wetsuit and surf those monster waves

F5 Tornado- Unlike the midwest, 90% of us live in brick 'n' stick houses, not trailers aka "Tornado magnets".

Super Volcanic Eruption- Oh, now we're in the realm of possibility. I don't think it would phase anyone. They'd most likely just think it was a stage 3 smog alert. Lava? No problemo. It would just fill up the subway system. And we could use it to build even larger walls seperating our homes from one another.

You forgot nuclear accident and meteor strike, by the way.

Do you have something against Angelenos?

Hasn't school started yet? I'll be glad when it does and the kiddies have some homework to keep them occupied.

All his answers are snipey little jabs at someone or something. I used to get bothered by him, but now I just think he's pathetic.

  8. Assuming that you don't live on the west coast, we don't get hurricanes or tornados or volacones!!

A major flood isn't even "major" in Los Angeles (the most will be the floor getting filled with water and DOESN'T EVEN HAPPEN TO EVERYBODY!
