  1. Of the three I would recommend the Riedell white ribbon.  They should give you plenty of support for a beginning recreational skater.  Yes you are allowed to wear figure skates at an open rink.

  2. I would not suggest buying skates online. if i had to choose the 3rd one is the best.

  3. #1. i wouldn't buy skates online, you gotta try them on to make sure they fit perfect, because if ice skates don't fit perfect than you won't be able to skate right and they are gonna really hurt your feet.

#2.  If your a guy, and your just skating for recreation, i would get hockey skates, they are easier to skate in.  Thats what i have.  Those ones you picked out are for figure skating, and your not allowed to do that in open rinks.

  4. The first pair is.......junk. :)  I wouldn't buy those if you have intentions of skating often or taking lessons.  Those are fine for a lap around a pond or rink once a year, but if you're skating frequently, they have the tendency to fall apart.  Plus they offer no ankle support.  If you plan on skating often, the Riedell white ribbon is going to be a better all-around skate than the first one...which is purely for recreational skating.  The Riedells you're looking at are better quality, made of better materials, are a stiffer boot and have a better quality blade than the first pair.  Depending on what your plans are will determine which pair of Riedells you get.  The blue ribbon is going to have more support than the white.  If you're just going to skate recreationally...no spinning, jumps, crossovers, etc. the white ribbon should be okay.  If you intend on learning beginning jumps, spins and other manuvers, the blue ribbon would be better.  For example, if you check this page....

.....the white ribbon is rated through the USFSA Snowplow Sam classes.  Those classes are usually for pretty little kids who are just working on standing, stopping and skating forward.  The blue ribbon is rated through USFSA basic 1-5.  Basic levels 1-5 include everything from marching and forward skating to backward skating, crossovers and more advanced manuvers.  The chart is pretty handy when you're trying to figure out where you fit in with Riedell's family of skates.  In contrast, say you're taking the USFSA basic skills classes and want your skates to last a little longer, according to the chart, a Riedell gold medallion would get you through basic 1 all the way through the beginning free skate levels.

Good luck with your skates!!  :)

  5. Avoid the American Athletic ones.  I think you should go for the Blue Ribbons.  It's got a PVC sole but the boot itself is leather.  I think from the description the White Ribbons are a plastic boot in addition to a plastic sole.

Also, pay attention to the level listed.  The White Ribbons are rated only up to Pre-Alpha.  If you don't take lessons, let me spell it out - that's like the equivalent of doing a one-foot glide, some swizzles.  If you're at all interested in skating you'll want to progress beyond that pretty quickly (like in a couple of sessions!).  There's no point in having to buy another pair of skates in a few months.  The Blue Ribbons are a good quality skate that I have seen tons of beginners use through their basic skills lessons.
