  1. Toss up between lack of pitching and injuries.  Injuries has a slight edge

  2. starting pitching :(

    The Rays

with that being said.. as a big Mike Mussina fan i hope he makes it to the big 2 0 this year!!! :)

  3. Can you say INJURIES?

    Let's think about this...

Phil Hughes, Ian Kennedy and Joba Chamberlain. 3 possible aces are all hurt.

Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada. Both important aspects, especially offensively, of this team.

A-Rod, arguably best MLB player, was injured.

    Now Derek Jeter.

This is the reason. This team has been DECIMATED by injuries and I doubt they'll make it, especially by the sound of Hanks words.

  4. Everyone seems to be saying starting pitching but I disagree they have gotten good pitching from chamberlain, pettitte, and mussina.  The back end of the rotation is a problem but also their middle rellievers have been shaky  Their problem is injuries in the lineup and most of their batters underperforming and not coming through in RBI situations.

  5. Well, ah....no one is in the playoffs right now.  Wait and see; the Rays have some serious injuries, and so do the Red Sox (so sad for me to say!)

Why aren't the Yanks in first or second place?  One word: PITCHING.

  6. You asked for the ONE thing.I'm going with the change in managers.Joe Torre handled the various personalities on the team better than Girardi is.I'm not a Yankee fan,but I don't think he's getting the credit he deserved managing the Bronx Zoo.

  7. Its simple, Injuries and the other teams in the division are better

  8. The calendar. It is still August, and the playoffs do not begin until October.

    And the Rays.

  9. I would have to stay starting pitching and injuries combined have been a huge problem this season for the yankees. also, the yankees havent seemed to string at-bats together as much or as consistantly as they should have. i think u can probably tell based off of my avatar what my position is on this issue...lol

  10. Well the fact that the playoffs havent started yet would be a huge contributing factor right now

  11. I don't care why. all I care about is that they are playing bad. I hate new york. s***w the yankees

  12. it's a tie between the constant injuries and the pitching rotation, there is no chance that the Yankees will make the playoffs with the way they are playing now, even though we get wins in spurts, Tampa Bay doesn't lose many games and Boston (even though they are a bunch of no named bums with one bat and half of a pitcher) will barely make it into the playoffs themselves. We can make it if we keep winning games that we are supposed to win and not let the harder teams "walk" in and "take" our championship.

  13. Coming from a Yankee Fan

INJURIES- lets see Posada out for the year so is Matsui and the ace Wang out for the year, Joba Chamberlain in the DL, Damon was on the DL so was Arod. Jeter is hurt . Brian Brunney was on the DL

Young Pitchers- Besides Chamberlain, Kennedy and Hughes has been inconsistent and haven't given the Yankees the Innings

The Inconstancy, They would hit  and get a tons of runs and everything would be , good but the next day they would be shut out,  same one day the Pitcher would be good the next time not.

The Pitching has its up and down again b/c of Injuries and incosistency , we had it bad

Simple: You might get mad for this but Joe Girardi is not Joe Torre , and Joe Girardi has to be better

  14. Yankees Fan

Inconsistency- Yankees go scoring about 10+ runs in one game and next one they barely score 1 or 2 runs

Pitching- Beside Mussina and Chamberlain, pitching has not been great at all

Injuries- Matsui, Posada, Wang, Chamberlain, A-Rod, Jeter  are all either injured or at one time go injured

  15. Starting pitchers getting hurt & I say they still have a shot considering they still have 6 games each with Boston & Tampa Bay but it will be tough to do but I have faith in them & if they do miss play offs, so be it & they had a long streak of consectutive years of making the play offs (1995 thru 2007) which no other team can touch.  Go Yankees

  16. 1 sad word....pitchingandinjuries

  17. Can I say the Rays shooting up to the AL East lead? That basically eliminates the wildcard spot for the Yankees. But other than that, it's injuries. The obvious answer. Wang and Chamberlain? Oh dear that's got to be horrible.

  18. No team is in the play-offs now

  19. Their starting pitching is their big issue. They have a good bullpen and an excellent closer in Rivera. They also have plenty of good bats in their lineup. The rotation is this team's weak link right now.

  20. Health of Starting Pitching. They need Wang now desperately because with him they would have 5-6 more wins and would have a stopper at the front of the rotation and wouldn't need Rasner or Ponson or Geise to pitch. And now that Joba's down they have to pitch all three. Hughes and Kennedy's disappointment of a season isn't helping either.

  21. There lack of more steroids LOL

  22. Injuries and no real prospects in their farm system.

Every now and then you have a good team that is just destroyed by injuries.  Look at their starting pitching, it has been decimated by injuries.  Wang, Petitte, and now Joba have all gone down.  As far as position players Matsui, Posada, and now Jeter are injured.

This team has depleted their farm system for years to get a bunch of superstars.  This works if your superstars don't get hurt.  But when you have this many injuries and no prospects to replace them, you set yourself up for failure.

  23. Their pitching is a huge problem. The starters are pitching only a few innings in a game more than they should. And when you have bad starters, it overworks your bullpen, leaving everything to the offense.

  24. The Rays being good.
