Which one will be the better spot-matheran or mahableshwar or lonavala ? from mumbai, mid august for 3 days?

Matheran: quite ok however,since all roads are un-metalled, movement may be restricted.

Maha'shwar: absolutely fine

lonavla: it's a destination for monsoon . You can be there from matheran and cover up in 3 days.

Mahabaleshwar would be at its best around that time than Mathern or lonaval or Goa.

All Stations you have refer ed are Hill stations and good for a changed climate from busy Metropolitan cities.  But easily accessible from Road and just 1-1/2 hrs run from Mumbai is Lonavala, with Valval Tank, Beautiful mountains Film city of Bollywood use there typical shots.  In addition to the beauty of Nature more Roadside Hotels  offering North & south Indian dishes at reasonable price could be more attracative Hill station in compared to other mentioned by you. where food problems exists or very exhorbitant price offered.
