i have a nice tank set up, i had over 25 guppies to begin with (adults)

also danios and red mollies, which was with them when i got them.

i added a catfish, a tattoed balloon molly, and a silver dollar fish.

i was told at the pet store that these could go in with the guppies.

one by one my fish are just disappearing.

i never see them chase each other , nothing.

whats getting my fish??

  1. The silver dollar. Silver dollars grow to be VERY large fish (imagine bigger then your hand), and are also categorized as semi aggressive. This is what is eating your guppies. I would STRONGLY recomend getting rid of it for the sake of ALL your fish, especially when it gets bigger

What kind of catfish do you have? If it is not some type of cory, then it is probably a common type, and most grow to be very large. That could also be picking off your guppies.

Mollys can be mean and pick on other fish. They may be chasing the guppies and stressing them out, then when they die, they get eaten by all the tank mates.

You have to remember, most fish "hunt" at night.

  2. death is getting your guppies one by one

  3. Depends on what kind of catfish. Also, how big is the silver dollar?

Some species of catfishes are predators, working mostly at night. But most species are just scavengers &/or vegetarians.

I have received some incredibly wrong answers from pet shop employees sometimes. Some know their stuff, while others definitely do not.

I would suspect the catfish perhaps, or the silver dollar if it is big enough.

  4. What sort of catfish?

If they are dissapearing totally then it's something like a catfish that can swallow them whole. And many catfish can eat a fish almost as big as themselves.

The other fish might nip fins, but you would find a body.
