  1. The liver produces bile, some of which is stored in the gall bladder. Its main function is to emulsify fats. That means, to break down the fats into smaller pieces that enzymes can get ahold of to digest. It is secreted into the small intestine via the bile duct.


  2. Bile is secreted by hepatocytes from the liver of most vertebrates.  Hepatocytes (liver "wall" cells) are involved in protein synthesis, protein storage and transformation of carbohydrates, synthesis of cholesterol, bile salts and phospholipids, and detoxification, modification and excretion of exogenous and endogenous substances.
