I know people who want to get their learning disability assessed. I know that one person was assessed but not properly told specifically what kind of disability they had when they were in high school. There was all kinds of theories. Has anyone had a similar experience and what resources or organizations do you know would be helpful in assessing a learning disability.

  1. There are lots of labels out there, but all you really need to know is that most learning disabilities stem from a learning style.

If a person visits http://www.dyslexia.com they may recognize themselves and discover a real solution to their learning challenges!

  2. Try Vocational Rehabilitation especially if you think your disability is holding you back from work or schools.  If not, you need to contact private psychologists in your area to see what they would suggest.  I wouldn't suggest going with the first one.  See what the norm is.

  3. In my community, READ will help, for free.  Ask your local library if there is a READ or a volunteer literacy program.
