I will be moving to another city soon and i have to decide among Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, San Francisco, Austin and Los Angeles. What will be best for me? I hold an MBA in Finance from India and have 2 years of work experience.

  1. I lived in Chicago for seven years.  Most large IB firms do not exactly have huge presences in Chicago.  And the competition is intense due to all the recent graduates from Univ. of Chicago you'll be competing with for those jobs.

But still, it's a large city with plenty of financial institutions - you're best bet would probably be with an IB group of one of the large banks there like Chase, Harrist Bank, Northern Trust, ABN AMRO,...or companies like Mesirow Financial or William Blair.

My guess is that LA/San Fran is a better place to be striclty for IB jobs.  Trading in Chicago right now is BOOMING.

  2. Chicago

  3. Chicago would be #1.... Boston #2.

Chicago is the closest to NY for your qualifications.

  4. As cold as it is, Chicago will be the better place for investment banking.

There are some major fund companies and analysts in the Boston area that would worth sending resumes.

Although if you want security, with less aggravation's, the Government is in Washington, and no Government employee works hard.   Government jobs look good on  a resume.
