I don't know if they are present in india but you can try byd of china.  They specialize in batteries and have a few electric cars.  Also there will be more electric cars by the chinese in 2009-2010.

The second link is a BYD electric car that is not in production yet.  I am keeping an eye on this car.  

If you don't need an electric car now, I would consider waiting a year or two.  The third link has a bunch of chinese companies that have prototype electric cars.
