Can someone please advice me.

My basement is slightly damp at certain times of year, but not very bad. The walls have evidence of damp/mould. Can I paint the floor and walls with some sort of antimould paint or masonry paint so I can put in shelves and use for storage? The walls are brick(painted) and the floor is concrete. The room is approx 8sq.m. Any personal recommendation of a particular UK brand, I'd be grateful. Many thanks.

  1. before you paint bleach the walls and buy a two litre pot of pva glue paint the Walls with that firstly then you can use a not so expensive paint to paint the walls as the pva glue works as a barrier to keep the damp under control failing that ask at a decorating shop for advice there are loads of great products out there that work on masonry or concrete

  2. u cant get rid of damp or mold with paint it will just keep coming back. u can however solve the proplem of damp with many membrane systems. i work for a damp proofing company and this stuff does work. visit the web site for ideas. tracebasementsystems.co.uk
