No question, my all-time favourite castle is Eilean Donan, which is on an island in the middle of Loch Duich in the Scottish Highlands.

It's in a fabulous, dramatic setting.  There are many other lovely castles all around the UK, but imo it's the best.

If you want Castles the North Wales corridor will have all you could ever want to visit in a relative small distance. Starting at Conway then Beaumaris down the Menai to the Crown Jewel Caernarfon Castle.You could then follow the coast down to Cricceth castle and then onto Harlech Castle taking in some breathtaking scenery

I've only vistited a few in England, but after reading the various answers to this question--I want to go to Scotland! That said, Leeds was beautiful and Buckingham was too--and interesting.  My actual favorite was the Tower of London, just imagining all the past history! Rochester was also fascinating, even though much of it is a ruin---I enjoyed my time there and ended up with some amazing pictures.

Leeds was very picturesque and so was Glamis.

Castles which are ruined are better though because you get a sense of their age.

  I think castles are a great day out and inspire the imagination.

Scotland - I like Drumlanrig

England - I like most of them!

Don't forget Wales - the Welsh have some of the best!
