I'm baking a recipe called GRANDGIRL"S FRESH APPLE CAKE FROM GEORGIA and I was wondering if I can use one of these instead of a tube pan ? I want the recipe to turn out fine if I use a different pan.

I have:

two 9 in. round pans

9x5 loaf pan

and

11x7x1.5 pan

  1. The idea of the tube pan is to cook a dense cake more evenly because you get the heat in the middle of the pan as well as the sides.

I would use the 9 inch pans, lower the oven temperature just a bit (like 5 or ten degrees) and keep an eye on the pans.  You may want to rearrange the pans in the oven as time goes by to help them cook more evenly.  It may be hard to tell how long to cook it so check it every after 15 minutes very often, not opening the oven door if you have a window and a light.

Don't overload the pans and if you have to, make three layers.

  2. If you use a loaf pan, you'll need to use 2 of them; and the 11x7" pan is too small too.  You can use the 2 layer pans or a 9x13" pan.....

  3. I'd use the loaf pan; you will get 2 loaves out of a recipe, though. This is gonna be a dense cake, and a tube pan allows heat to get to the center of it so it bakes evenly.  Do you have a bundt pan?  You can use that, too.

  4. I think you would be fine with a 9X5 loaf pan.  Your recipe does not change if you use the same ingredients only the rise of the cake will change.
