  1. quaker parrots are very friendly once trained. they are kind of like parakeets. the only difference is the looks and quakers can be taught to talk. Good Luck with your purchase!

  2. Lineoloated parakeets are about half the size of a Quaker and no where near as loud. They also have a sweeter disposition.

Quakers are a LOT easier to find. I've had three Quakers in my life -- I loved them all, the last one lived to be 13 years old, but they could be ornery little buggers -- and cage territorial to the point of mauling anyone who got too close to it when they were "home".

I have three caiques now, and if I tried getting a linnie, they'd probably try to eat it.

  3. Quaker parrots are a little more demanding than lineolated parakeets, since they're bigger and hence more active, but otherwise both are very good pets and relatively easier to care for among parrots. If noise, messiness and a little bit of chewed furniture bothers you, then a lineolated parakeet is a better choice. But otherwise, I think that a Quaker has far more personality and is a very good mimic as well. In a nutshell, a lineolated parakeet is easier than a Quaker, but a Quaker is also far more abundant to find. However, keep doing your research to determine which species is best for you.

It is also very important to get your bird from a good source. Either get it from a reputable breeder or even better, adopt it from a reputable shelter, but most pet stores aren't a good place to get your bird from. Visit http://www.avianwelfare.org to find the nearest parrot shelter. These guys are dedicate to rehabbing and rehoming abandoned, neglected or abused parrots in good forever homes. They often have better birds than most pet stores for a fraction of the price, and you'll also know beforehand about the bird's personality if you adopt the bird from them.
