  1. I'm assuming you are at the Randwick campus.

UNSW has several, some 2 hours from the city.

Beachside, a bus ride away, nice but very ecky:

    Coogee, Maroubra, Bondi Junction, Paddington

Cheaper, still a bus ride away:

    Alexandria, Mascot

Inner city, ecky:  Chippendale, Newtown, Erskinville

Inner West, ecky:  Balmain , Rozelle, Annandale,

                                   Glebe,                    Leichhardt

                                   (would require changing buses)

How much are you planning on spending?

Be warned, renting in Sydney is astronomical, and you want to rent within 30 minutes of the city you won't find a share place for less than (around) $200 a week,

if you are living by yourself (presuming you can even find anything, there is a drought of accommodation available) you need to plan on spending a minimum of $300 - $500 a week in rent.`

And if you are a uni student who can afford that, you obviously come from a loaded family and I obviously need to get to know you better!!  That is a joke, ok.  Good luck

PS  In Sydney, we regard as anything less than an hour to travel to uni/work as pretty good going.  If you need to lower your sights, think about suburbs that would take 2 buses and an hour, still only 30 minutes from the city.   Five Dock, Canada Bay, Concord, Strathfield (heaps of overseas students there), Croydon, Ashfield are all significantly cheaper than where you aspire to live, and all are reasonably nice suburbs with good local shopping and public transport links.

In this city, getting to somewhere on public transport is always unreliable and will take 3 times longer than driving.

  2. Check with housing services at UNSW.

    Link below.

I would suggest lining in University housing for at least one term.

Rental law in Aus. may be different from where you live now. Very hard to jugde safety of an area from far off.

  3. sydney, i guess...
