I'm a New Yorker trying my luck to get a job in the UK for my mind and heart are set to move and live there, no offense to others, but particularly in the England area (maybe London, Brighton, Newcastle, Sheffield)?. Any suggestion would be great!

  1. north east

  2. I would say London my home city, but it is terribly expensive, even on the outskirts now, its affordable only if you have a decent enough job with good pay. Brighton is nice but not exactly a hotbed of industry, except for tourism. It does depend on what sort of work you are going for.

  3. sometimes the cheaper places to stay don't have the job opportunities ... I live nowadays in London but am originally from the north east (Durham) ... Durham is a much more scenic and friendly place to live, but London is where the work is .... if you're a New Yorker you'll probably be able to cope with London fine, but London is so cosmospolitan it often doesn't feel like living in the UK, more like living in the United Nations

  4. Southend on Sea in Essex. Nice, cheap area 30 miles east of London and plenty of job oppotunities

  5. Cardiff, South Wales, cheapest housing around, you have one of the fastest growing capitals in Europe there with thosands of jobs being created every year with a booming population and economy, 30minuites from the England/Wales Border and 2 hour train journey to London its a great place to live i love it! London far too expensive, Wales is so pretty!

  6. Try Cheshire,  easy access to Manchester, Liverpool and still only three and a half hours from London.

  7. It's going to depend on what you do for a living currently and are prepared to do when you move (plus getting a work permit in the UK is not nearly as easy as it used to be!) I live in Brighton and commute to London because Brighton's a fantastic place to live but the job market and salaries are much more restrictive than in London. I lived in London for 14 years and although it'd suit a New Yorker down to the ground, you just won't believe how expensive life there is (having said that, Brighton's not much cheaper these days). Other cities I'd live in would be Cambridge (lovely countryside, quiet way of life), Leeds (very picturesque with a great European buzz but lots of rain!) and Newcastle (great nightlife, lots to do, great shopping).

  8. If you want affordable then you need to head North. Try Cumbria, a beautiful area with plenty of job opportunities and a cheap cost of living compared to Southern England .

  9. London, England,
