Which part of the foot?

Which part of your foot should you kick a rugby place kick? I kick with my toe and do quite good but I'm told its better to kick with the inside?

  1. Kicking with a straight leg and the toe is the old and traditional way of kicking. Works fine, but it has its limitations. Kicking with a round swinging leg and the instep is a more modern approach which all top level kickers use. Check out this video from one of the best, Jonny Wilkinson:

  2. Kick it with your instep if you can.  I always found that I lost a lot of power kicking like that, but eventually I got it.  Your other foot is probably more important though.  Make sure you get it as close as you can to the ball so that you are stable and you are not reaching forward to kick, or kicking the ball from "behind".
