  1. Up until the 2000 elections it was the Republican Party. But after that the Republicans have been holding hands with the Democrat Party. That is why the only difference between each party is in the spelling.

  2. Used to be Republicans and most true conservatives still agree with those principals.

  3. Republican

  4. Historically, the republicans. However, Bush has spent more money than any liberal president in United States History. The deficit increased from 4 trillion to 9.5 trillion dollars from 2000 to 2006, making Bush the highest spending president, and congress passed these measures-- he beat Clinton, Franklin Roosevelt-- any big spender you can think of.

So, the republican party in the times in Eisenhower was for smaller government, but TODAY it's the libertarian party.

  5. Before the Bush administration, historically the republicans were for less government.

One of the reasons Reagan is a hero to the republicans (and conservatives in general) was that, even though he built up the military, the federal government as a whole got smaller.

  6. Libertarians.

  7. Libertarians, I guess, if that counts as a party. Republicans and Democrats abandoned that long ago, but Republicans tried that shoe on for size from about 1930-1965... The Vietnam War undid all that tho... it was more or less dictated that they would run on the "limited government" slogan because the Democrats were bailing people out during the Depression and because of that, they enjoyed their glory days then.

I Don't agree with your retoric referring to what the framers intended, It is my understanding that they gave us and intended us to use our ability to change as needed within a system of rules so that we might adapt to the times that we live in so that and so long as we up hold liberty and justice and the most good protection of the citizens and we uphold republican democracy.

People live longer then they did in the 18th century... There is a central Federal banking system now... there are more people and less resources now... as we found out in the Great Depression it was benifical to the most people if the government created jobs, took action to combat inflation, or regulated business as there is incentive for business to cut corners at other's expense for profit (see a Dickens Novel or perhaps one by Upton Sinclair).

  8. libertarians.

The republicans say small government than expand the bureacracy and military aspects while tightening the social ones (which has resulted in our budget deficit)

the democrats don't even claim small government. They expand it to help people out (at least they say). On the other hand, they keep it small when it comes to interfering with people's lives (for example, they don't oppose g*y marriage).

  9. Both parties at one time supported limited government. Today, its pretty hard to tell which one is more for limited government, but we can be assured that neither aren't. There is only 1 real party for limited government and that is the Libertarian Party, join the effort.

  10. The Libertarian Party.

    Then the Republican Party.

  11. Where does it say that the government should be limited in the Constitution?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having your OWN opinion about what the American government of the twenty first century should be like.

But even though the Framers were pretty smart guys,. I doubt that they were 250 years ahead of the game.

  12. Conseritives, not neocons. For the last 60 years it has been Republicans mostly.

  13. GOP - the dems want a nanny state where the government takes care of you from cradle to grave (just look at all the social programs they want)

  14. First of all, "the framers" didn't all intend for government to be small. This is a myth that for some reason goes around and ignores the actual debates they had. More than a few favored a strong centralized government.

With that attempt at rewriting history out of the way, I would say that neither major party is very much for limited government. One party favors limited government in some areas (say, taxation, welfare, and business regulation) while the other party favors limited government in other areas (like g*y marriage, abortion, "victimless crimes"). Since they each propose government intervention in some areas and not in others, it is hard to say that either one is "more" for limited government. In recent history, the federal government as expanded under presidents regardless of their party affiliation, indicating that any philosophy of "limited government" is not practiced.

Going beyond the two major parties, the libertarians seem to consistently favor limited government. I think that this philosophical purity is only possible because the libertarians have no shot at winning any major elections, and so do not have to worry about pandering or wooing the voters with government funds.

  15. They say republicans. If you really  look at this only a few control the majority.

  16. Republicans!

They have been pushing for a corporate takeover of America for decades and they are almost there.

Americans should learn the value of business! If we owned the petroleum companies, there would be health care for everybody!

h**l, why would we raise taxes if we have 6 or 7 dollars a gallon at our disposal?

    Get wise people!

  17. Now libertarian.

Both parties today have a strong urge to expand government.

    Dems--more domestic spending

    Reps---more foreign spending and relations

  18. Neither, but Obama seems to at least understand the concept.

Bush has completely corrupted the balance of power.

  19. The framers intended for the Constitution to protect their property rights (i.e., owning slaves) so that they could keep all the money for themselves. Neither party is completely embracing that position anymore.

  20. The Anarchist Party closely followed by The republican party
