Which pet should I get?

I'm fourteen years old and living with my parents and 7 year old sister. My dad likes to travel a lot, and we own two parakeets. We've wanted to buy a cat or a dog for a while now, and just can't seem to decide on which to buy because of all the traveling we do and the two birds.

Should I get a cat or a dog, and which breed to best fit my family's lifestyle?

cats can be mean

but also some are sweethearts

same with dogs

dogs can show theyre emotions kind of better with the whole tail wagging thing

cats like to jump around places.

dogs will be very happy when your dad gets home  from travelingi think you should go with a dog

I would say a cat, but you should really consider a turtle.

If your traveling you should get a cat and persians are a good breed but they do shed alot and if you cant get another cat or dog get another bird

cat... if you travel a cat is much less work than a dog, you can leave it to be cared for by whomever looks after your birds

select a cat who has been with birds if possible (like one at the shelter who was raised with birds)

or keep the birds in a safe area..

or get a younger kitten and spray it (NOT meanly) with water when it shows interest in the birds...

always get pets from the local shelter, NEVER a pet store, or free out of the paper...

You may select a cat or a dog. I am just wondering who'd take care of them while you are all out. But if you are travelling it with them, then taking a cat is better as dogs could not travel a lot of times.

However, personally I like to a cute dog. Dogs are still considered man's best friend. You can shout, cry and tell them stories and they are still there. But Parakeets might be having problems with dog barkings.
