Which pharoah did Moses supposedly confront in the writing of the Old Testament?

Sorry, this is not a question to ask whether the Bible was true. However, I would like to know who the pharoah was who Moses was supposed to have confronted. I am currently studying on the pharoahs, and just wondering which one it was. Not sure of the timeline of the bible. Even if a person doesn't believe in the totality of the bible, surely there are at least some facts based on true events and people.

  1. Ramses I.  (according to Bible)  Probably not Ramses II, as he was an imperialist pharo, who conquered the region including Palestine.

    Why is the name questioned?

    1) No Egyptian record of the Exodus.

    2) Ramses stood out so much among pharos (esp. Ramses II) that whenever someone isn't sure of a pharo's name, they guess 'Ramses.'

(The latter Ramses built more than any other pharo.  The guesswork happens, because many pharos would scratch off their predecessor's names off monuments, and replace it with their own.)

  2. it was either ramses II or merneptah because ramses was called the pharaoh of the oppression and merneptah the pharaoh of the exodus. most historians are confused.

  3. One of them there Ramses

  4. Although the final verdict is not yet in, we can be reasonably sure that Amenhotep II was the pharaoh of the Exodus.

  5. Some say that it could've been either Rameses I, Rameses II or Sethos 1.

Based on my research, I believe that Amenhotep II was the Pharaoh Moses confronted.

  6. I just saw this on TLC not too long ago.  It seems that Ramses 1 was the Pharoah of the Exodus according to the Egyptologists and Archaelolgists on that program

  7. As I understand it is not quite clear which Pharoah was i Moses times. Some say Ramesses the 2nd and some say it was not one but two or three kings

  12. I hope this answer helps. Have a great day.

At least as early as Eusebius of Caesarea, Ramesses II was identified with the pharaoh of whom the Biblical figure Moses demanded his people be released from slavery.

This identification has often been disputed, though the evidence for another solution is likewise inconclusive as critics point out that Ramesses II was not drowned in the Sea. The primary Exodus account itself makes no specific claim that the pharaoh was with his army when they were "swept ... into the sea"; only Psalm 136 makes this claim.

Critics of the theory also emphasize that there is nothing in the archaeological records from the time of Ramesses' reign to confirm the existence of the Plagues of Egypt. However, this is not surprising since few pharaohs wished to record natural disasters or military defeats in the same manner that their rivals documented these events (as in the Biblical narratives).

In the Bible, the name of the Pharaoh of the Exodus is not given. He is simply called "Pharaoh."
