Which photo is better and why?

I don't think either one is terribly interesting or technical, but which one do you think is better and why? I'm just starting out and could use some good feedback.

definitely the first one.

the composition is altogether more impressive, and you can concentrate well on the subject.

The first is better composition wise, but it is always better to use a shallow depth of field to isolate the flower.

The first one is much better because the subject is off center!!

the first is better for a few reasons:

the subject is in focus and the color is true

it is well composed, in other words the subject is more in the golden mean than dead center, you used the "rule of thirds" in composing it.

and you have just one flower, 1,3,5, odd numbers are best for subjects in an image even numbers just don't fly well.

the second image: there is an even number of subjects dead center and they are blown out, the light takes away from the color of them. it is not well composed, move them to one side and do some color correction and it may be a decent image, even with an even number

i checked some of your photostream, you know a good image and you have the ability to do well with a camera, i'm impressed. the images of your sister dancing on the beach are awesome and very touching.

i like the first :)

it looks like the flower is trying to reach the sun and therefore is giving off a radiant glow. it makes the flower look alive! well done, good job :P

The first one

Better composition, and the lighting on the flowers is not as harsh as the second.

the picture with just the one flower, it looks more professional, and gives the picture a main focus, rather than a couple of main focus points.

i like it :)
