  1. Well, there's chlorophyll, which acts like a big catcher's mitt for speeding photons.  But various carotenoids are also involved, including oxygen-bearing ones called xanthophylls.  These photosensitive chemicals act as light antennae and have energy quenching capability.

    They also look really spectacular in the fall.  

    By "light reaction, " I'm assuming you mean the daytime reaction where the energy of light is conserved as as "high energy" phosphoanhydride bonds of ATP and the reduction of NADPH.
