Which place is more fun to have a vacation at: New York or Hawaii?

My mom has these free tickets to go anywhere in the US for few days for free, but I don't know if New York is better, or if Hawaii is. I love shopping (I'm really cheap though, so couture and vintage things won't suit me), but I also love beaches and nature-y stuff. Which one should I go to? and why?

Hawai'i, please.

Where else can you walk on a white sand beach, a green sand beach and a black sand beach ALL ON THE SAME DAY!

See the majestic snow-capped glory of Mauna Loa and the lava flows from the Kilueua Caldera ON THE SAME DAY!

Go tramping about the Waipi'o valley with its magnificent waterfalls, snorkle at Kealakekua Bay, go to a Kona plantation where you can pick and grind your own Kona coffee beans!

You can have a crateload of excitement on the Big Island.

let me recommend a fabulous book "Hawai'i the Big island Revealed" by Doughty and Friedman  (ISBN 0-9639429-9-9) which will help maximize your time there and make sure you rent a Four Wheel Drive (you will need it, especially when you drive to the top of Mauna Loa!).

well considering that i am in upstate new york i would have to say please go to Hawaii,,

snow and cold vs the beaches nice weather ,, no competition,,

HAWAII!!!!!!!!!  its stunning there and the weather is so much better than NY.... its breathtaking there, i went for my honeymoon  beautiful!!

If you want cheap shopping and beaches, go to New York! New York has beaches on the coast (pretty cold right now though!) and they have some of the cheapest shopping known to man! Hawaii has nice beaches, but it is a tourist destination and cheap shopping is limited there.
