  1. Bangkok, Thailand. It's way better than Vietnam.

  2. I loved Hanoi and hated Saigon,Hanoi is Vietnam,Saigon is just anyother poluted overpopulated Asian city.

  3. As a Hanoian, I reccommend Hanoi.

  4. I really liked Saigon - visit the delta, the tunnels, the Cao Dai temple and just generally wander around.  However, Hanoi does have Ho Chi Minh's mausoleum and is close to Halong Bay, so both have their points of interest.

  5. I haven't been to HCMinh but I just came back from Hanoi.Friends who have been to both say the former is more westernised and commercialised. If you like traditional  stuff ,Hanoi probably is a better choice.Halong Bay is worth a visit.

  6. I've been to Vietnam. I've spent over six months there but not during the war. If you want to experience the culture and the true heart of a great people choose Siagon. But don't call it Ho Chi Minh - Even though that's the name. It refers to the communist leader of old. People there prefer Siagon.

Places you can travel to after you go there is Vun Tao, Dalat, Nha Trang and a few other fabulous and exciting places.

Don't forget to go to Pho Hoang for some Pho Tai. Chow!

  7. I wish I could help you but instead I have to think about how I am going to feed my kids tomorrow. Sorry

  8. old ha noi [ the hoan kiem lake district] with its quaint winding narrow streets at first appears the best choice. however it is a small area and soon becomes boring. there is much more to do inside sai gon, much better shopping , entertainment and food. that said the surrounding area of ha noi is MUCH more interesting than the surrounding area of sai gon.  cu chi tunnels [ not very impressive] and mekong delta tours are available from sai gon as is a speed boat to vung tau [ again not too impressive].   from ha noi you can day trip to ha long bay [remarkable] & and the purpule pagoda [ only for the hearty]. you can also overnight in mai chau valley [ 4 hr bus from old town ha noi] and then there is the overnight train to sapa, "mt town in the clouds"

if you sre willing to venture around , i say ha noi... if your not much on touring , stay in sai gon..... heck if you take a plane its only a half day to from hotel in sai gon to hotel in ha noi... if you got time see both . i often enter the country in ha noi and go home out of sai gon....wherever you decide to go make a point to get up and out REAL EARLY at least once in a while. viet nam is most alive at 5am...go down to the hoan kiem lake in ha noi and joinh in the exercises or take a brisk walk before breakfast ..it will make your day... in sai gon get down to a local park or morning market w/ your camera. and by all means meet as many of the locals as you can... thats what will bring you back to viet nam again and again...

  9. I enjoy Hanoi more.  There are good day trips from there.  i.e. Halong Bay, ancient citidels and craft villages.  Hanoi itself has a lot of nice things to see and do too.  The history of Vietnam is there.  I'd sure save some time to make a trip to Hue though.  A few days there seeing the Kings tombs and the Citiadel is well worth the trip there.  cheers.
