I would like to visit a place (for 3 days) which has natural beauty, bushwalking trails, lakes and waterfalls and wildlife sanctuary or gardens. Which place among these three would be appropriate? If you have visited any of these places or know about them, please help me. Thank You.

  1. Beechworth is my husbands home town and it is absolutly beautiful.  I have seen amazing natural beauty, bushwalking trails, lakes and waterfalls.  I have not been to any of the others that you have mentioned but I love Beechworth and don't forget to visit the Bakery, the Lolly shop and the warm and welcoming hotels. History, history, history!!!!

  2. Halls gap for sure out of your choice, stay at Stawell & have a bloody good time.

  3. Halls Gap is a beautiful little hamlet.  There are heaps of bush walking trails into the Grampians (from a couple of hours to a couple of days).  There is not a wildlife sanctuary as such - there doesn't need to be because the wildlife is all around you.  You are guaranteed to see heaps of kangaroos, koalas, emus, and wallabies and the bird life is amazing (flocks of beautifully coloured parrots etc.)  There are backpackers hostels, cabins, motels through to high end accommodation.  We stayed at Boroka Downs which was beautiful.  Mobs of kangaroos and emus passed by our windows daily.  One waterfall worth seeing is McKenzie Falls which we hiked to.  If you are on your own I would stay at a backpackers so that you could find a hiking buddy.  You don't want to get lost or injured on your own up there.  I think Hall's Gap is the best place to stay in the Grampians and I love the Grampians - it is rugged, spectacular and supports so much Australian wildlife.

PS: If you are driving there be really careful on the roads - especially at dawn and dusk.  Mobs of kangaroos jump out in front of your car regularly.  There are slow moving echidnas crossing the roads.  We had a beautiful owl fly head first into our windscreen at night which was really upsetting.
