  1. I have also heard that Costa Rica is very safe, though I've never been there so I can't speak from experience.  I can say that Chile is a pretty safe country.  I spent a semester there and had an amazing time.  There's a rich history and it's a beautiful country.  The people there were unbelievably warm and inviting, and there are tons of things to do, especially if you're an outdoorsy person.  Crime is pretty low there.  The only thing there's a problem with is petty theft, pickpocketing and the like, but you'll find that everywhere.  The taxis, buses, and especially subways in Santiago are very safe and convenient.

Wherever you go, bear in mind that you always need to be careful.  Don't walk alone at night, etc, or you're just asking for trouble.

Also remember that when it's summer here in North America, it's winter in South America, and it does get cold in places!  (Central America stays pretty warm though.)

Good luck and have a blast wherever you go!

  2. bangkok! there really like to bang-kok over there!

  3. Costa Rica is relatively safe.  Just like anywhere else you need to be watchful and aware of your surroundings.

I can hook you up with some very reliable taxi drivers.... who will look out for you as well as drive you to various areas.
