I love brazil.

i love the culture, the people, the food, everything.

i'm even learning portuguese. the only thing is...

ive never been to brazil. i am obsessed with the country, but i've never been there. everybody says brazil is so dangerous, and i dont want to believe it.

i know every country has violence, but i want to know if brazil is safe.

i want to go to brasilia, sao paulo, and belo horizonte.

is brasilia safe? is it mostly upper, middle, or lower class?

i have a friend who lives there, and she lives in a big house and has never been robbed.

i dont know anybody in sao paulo or belo horizonte.

i want to know: of these three places...which one is the safest?

thanks so much.

muito obrigado.

  1. If you are learning Portuguese you will be fine. Just be real careful. Big cities can be real dangerous for those who are not advised to pay attention, specially downtown.

Try not to call attention to yourself, do not carry valuable items, and that is it.

Among these cities ? I would say Brasilia is the safest. But it is all about opportunity, do not give the robberies opportunities to rob you.

  2. If you've never been to Brazil, the first way (and safest, and smartest, and most fun) is to do a tour.

Are you young?  (No offense...you sound it).  If you are, that's a good thing.  If you're between the ages of 18-26 heavily discounted travel is avalible to you.

To see what I mean check out:

You get to travel with a bunch of hot college students and they take care of everything.  I personally reccomend this service.

Plus, if you use the manager code: gavrie6237 when you book...they  will give you another $50 discount on top of the already SUPER cheap price

  3. Brazil is safe if you use your common sense.  If you go trying to purchase drugs or drive in certain areas in the middle of the night it can be dangerous, just like most mega cities.  I have lived in London, Mexico City, Talcahuano (Chile), Tegucigalpa (Honduras), Moscow (Russia), São Paulo (Brazil), Baton Rouge (USA), and I now live in Rio de Janeiro.  I was only robbed once and that was in Baton Rouge.  Even so I still think that Baton Rouge is safe just as Rio is if you are sensible.

  4. Danger you may find anywhere, specially here.

The key here is do not do it for granted. I born in SP and never was robbed, but I do leave anything open at home, I make sure to be aware when I get in or leave my house, pay attention on faces around me, do not show fancy on public stuff for granted.

Live here does not require too many advices, only the basics. If you from US it may sound crazy, but once you come here, you get use to.

  5. Use the cab the hotel offers, and return in the cab the hotel sends. This may sound like overkill but it beats being kidnapped.

Visit Curitiba "Its a paradise, but don't tell". Charming and cosmopolitan. Porto Alegre is a good stop as is Florianopolis.

Stay with your group and enjoy a truly wonderful country.

  6. Hi!

Let me tell you about Belo Horizonte:If is this your first time in Brazil you will enjoy this city. In despite to be the third largest city, it still preserves a provincial style of life. Their population loves sit in squares watch the life while they got a good prose(prosa in Portuguese).

I am sure you will like a lot, and as we say: who drinks the belo horizonte's water always return.
