Question:

Which plane ticket should I buy?

I'm planning a trip to Bangkok, Thailand this December. I've been checking out online travel sites for cheap airfare. The best deal I've found is on Asiana airlines... the catch is that the flight leaves SFO at noon and arrives in Bangkok after midnight. On the return flight, there is a long layover in Seoul for nearly 10 hours.

Compared to the next best deal from China Airlines, it's about $150 usd cheaper. With China air, my arrival time in Bangkok is around noon, and the layovers aren't more than 2-3 hours for each travel segment.

Should I go with the cheap-o guys to save a few bucks? Also- should I buy my ticket ASAP? I know fuel prices are likely to head upwards in the near future.

Thanks!

  1. First of all, buy your ticket as soon as possible.  Airlines are cutting capacity and fuel prices are going up.  This combination spells higher airfares.

Asiana has a better reputation than China Air for service, so that's the one I would pick.  Your body clock is going to be pretty maladjusted anyhow, so the sleep on your arrival will be welcome.  As for the Seoul layover, if you can clear customs and immigration into Korea it might be a nice way to enjoy a little time in another destination!

    Safe travels!

  2. If you can afford it maybe china airline would be best.  But if you are not in a hurry go with asiana.  10 hours is not so long.  You can always explore the airport and by the time you know it, its already there.  Last time I flew I have to stay overnight at airport. Not so bad, air is cool, Stayed in a lounge for more than 8 hours have a nice shower eat a lot.  That is because I have waited for about 22 hours til my next flight that is in Hongkong Airport.
