Panasonic 42pz800 or Samsung 50a550? About the same price so is the extra size better than the better picture. My viewing distance will be under 8 ft.

  2. Panasonic has the best repair rating from consumer reports for both plasma tv's and LCD tv's.

The -800 model you're looking at has THX calibration and native 1080p24 reproduction at 48Hz. It will be a more lifelike natural picture than the Samsung.

I would highly recommend the Panasonic Viera line, especially the -800 and -850 models. You can currently find the TH-50PZ800U through some online retailers for around $2,000 - so it would not hurt to move up to the 50" if your viewing distance is 8ft.

For a 42" at 8ft you will not resolve all the detail of a 1080p signal. 5-6ft would be better for a 42".

  3. You should get a 50 inch vizio plasma. We got one a few months ago for like 1400 and it came with surround sound speakers and a box. Its like 1200 now at sears. I love it

  4. If you're under 8 feet, 42" will be pretty close to perfect. 50" would be great too, but rest assured, 42" will be great. On Amazon the Samsung has more ratings than the Panasonic, but both score quite well with customers.

They both seem very nice, and you'll be happy either way I think. I might give the nod to the 50", just because I have had good luck with Samsung products, and the extra size may be nice if you ever move it to a different room. Both pictures will look great, and both are 1080p, so don't let the fancy "picture viewing" and all of that stuff Panasonic offers be your selling point.

If it were me, like I said, I'd go Samsung. That's just me though. Good luck, and enjoy.
