Plastic water bottle (PET Type 1) is not safe to reuse.

What about Type 5? I heard that most recycling plants recycle type 1 and 2 only, so my type 5 containers are going to end up in landfill, and I want to reuse them before they leave me, but is it safe to reuse them? How long can I keep using them?

  1. I have heard that plastics with grade # 2, #4 and #5 are the best as far as recycling goes.

    Check out www.earth911.org

Type in your zip code for recycling information in your area

  2. I would think that ALL plastic containers are re-usable. Unless you have a problem with cleaning it out and depending on what it originally contained. I re-use PET type 1 containers all the time. They originally held Cranberry Juice, and I use them to hold Ice Tea. When they become stained from the Tea, I clean them out with some Bleach. It works great.
