in my opinion the 2nd best after sobers would be Sir Don Bradman but maybe if you want someone with more than just batting id say Viv Richards he was an awsome fielder, handy bowler and great captain on top of being one of the greatist batsman ever

He is the player with most number of records, he is the player with the more than 100 wickets, he is th player with       more than 25000 runs in odi's and tests, he is the player who is treated as god  of cricket everywhere, he is the player who has the highest number of fans and he is the phenomenal SACHIN TENDULKAR. he is the number one batsman. The other one's whom i claim to be the best are:_

rahul dravid........Each have their own flamboyant style of the game and they master it in every aspect..

We all know that Sachin is regarded by many as the second greatest 'BATSMAN' but you are talking about second greatest 'CRICKETER'.

And also many people say that Garfield Sobers is the greatest cricketer of all time.

Yes Bradman is the greatest batsman of all time but many do not consider him the greatest cricketer.

So different people will give a different answer to this question since there is a lot of confusion.

I am sure a lot of people would want to see a bowler in top 3 or top 2.

I do not like comparisons between genius cricketers.

My top 5 cricketers of all time (in no specific order) -

*Sobers

*Bradman

*Imran

*Warne

I am not going to rate them as #1,#2,#3.That would be lame

Well there are Quite Few Players, who can be placed as the 2nd best or Best Ever.

Likes of Sachin, Imran, Wasim, Viv, Hadllee, Ponting, Warne , Murali and More every one of these player have been an absolute God of Cricket in different form of Game.

I.e. Wasim Akram has been rated The Greatest Left Arm bowler of all times. even by Sir Bradman

Sachin Has been rated Master mind batsman and the best ever. Sir Bradman said that Sachin plays just like Me.

So if I were to pick for 2nd best ever, I will put all of them in number 2 spot . Too hard to rate these names for numbers.

Good question!  Keith Miller was a WW 2 pilot and great allrounder, but JPeeling beat me to it with the answer earlier!

Also, I reckon Lara is better than tendulker!  If tendulker is so good, why hasn't he scored a triple century?

No other player has evolved the game like he did, the whole bodyline saga came about because of him which introduced helmets and changed the course of the game substantially. His average is more than 25 runs higher than anyboy else having played more than 50 innings and by standard deviation he is the best player of any sport ever. This is mentioned in the wikipedia article on him, it means that of any sport ever, Bradman had the highest difference in skill level between himself and the average.
