  1. The locks or Flankers are usually lifted by the props. Locks are most likely to be lifted and flankers will also help with the lifting

  2. The forwards usually go into the line out... anywhere up to 7 of them... the hooker (2) usually throws the ball in, the other 7 compete for the ball... the lineout can be shortened though, to any number, even "none" (!), ie: the catcher and thrower are the same person! So long as the ball goes more than 5 yards... often happens when a back (usually the fullback, 15 or one of the wingers, 11 & 14) catches the ball and throws in to himself.

For the "proper" lineouts... there's no specific laws about who does what. Usually it is the tallest players that jump (compete) for the ball - so usually second row (4 and 5, locks) as they are usually the biggest players on the pitch and maybe some of the back row (6 & 7, flankers and no. 8) but really depends... the "others" (props, 1 & 3, as well as anyone else who's not jumping) lift them... though, if it is a quick cheeky chuck to the front man, then it may well go to the prop, or an overthrow to the back of the lineout then it could go to the short-**** flanker, or even an on-running back.

  3. The players who go into the lineup are almost always forwards. The lifters are normally Props and the Non jumping flanks. The lock normally jump but Flanks often jump for it. A scrum half normally waits for the ball to be tapped back.
