  1. depends on what you want some people want thick picks while others want it thin and while others want it wide others want it small. so just try out different picks and see which fits you.


  2. Get a selection of thin, medium, and heavy ones plus some with grips and also try the Dunlop tortex picks as well.  They're cheap so it's not a big investment to buy a bunch in order to decide which one you like the best. Your local music store will sell you a single pick.

    I happen to use the .50 mm red Dunlop tortex pick but not a lot of people like a pick that thin.  Good luck.

  3. Yeah buy a selection of multiple thickness to help decide what you like best. also buy different materials as they all sound different. I use dunlop .73 tortex for my electrics but find they sound dull on an acoustic...

    I was in a shop today looking at acoustics and was using a snarling dog - brain pick (nylon) and it sounded much much better than my usual totex.  

    Thickness is personal preference

    pick material varies with the guitar used.  

    Go buy a stack of different picks and until you find the sound and thickness you like.
