  1. "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird" was my first Stevens poem, and it does draw me in. I still like it even after 25 years. Though I do not share Stevens' philosophy, I also tend to like "Sunday Morning." It makes an interesting argument in a subtle, more real way than rhetoric. (Again, I don't believe it, but I like it.)


  2. Stevens wrote a lot of great poems. I have a special fondness for "The Idea of Order at Key West" just because I remember coming home once from a party bombed out of my skull, sitting down, and reading that poem to myself out loud two or three times. How many poems could you do that with?  I still have no idea what the poem means, but who cares? Reading it's an experience no one should miss.
