  1. 2- 12S will sound better in the right box than 1 -18" will

  2. The Solo X 18" has more surface area then 2 Solo X 12"'s.  People have to remember when doing the surface area that Solo X's are square, not circular.

A single Solo X 18" powered right and in the ideal enclosure can hit over 150dB's.  That's hard enough in my book ... and it will go lower then 2 12"'s.  No knock on 2 Solo X 12"'s, because they will bang hard too given the right amount of power and put in an ideal enclosure.

  3. with the correct setup for max spl, i would have to say the 18" solo-x. the surface area on the 18" sub is greater than the surface area on both 12" subs put together, so it can push more air.

for sq though, 2 12"s would be better.

  4. in a test situation where all is equal (proper box size, box type, amp power and settings) the 2 12s will probably be louder and provide better overall sound.  the 18 on the other hand may produce slightly lower frequency responce but not as loud.  it is possible  that with more power and different box types that the 18 will pound harder.  The same can also be  said of the 12s but remember that you have more surface area with 2 12s moving more air , and together thay can handle more power than the 18 therefore it would be easier to get 2 12s to pound harder than 1 18
