  1. Personal opinion  Core 2 Quad at 2.4ghz will be better.

plus that processor can be over clocked to 3ghz with the stock air cooler.

    Not over clocked benchmark scores

core 2 duo   benchmark score  2029

core 2 quad benchmark score  2691

    Over clocked benchmark scores

core 2 duo    benchmark score   2585

core 2 quad  benchmark score   3795

Clearly the core 2 quad is a faster/better processor

  2. 8400 is better.  Quad core's are overrated  th

  3. you totaly want the quad core. the basic rule of thumb is, the more execution cores, thre faster. althought i would reccomeng geting the Q9300 because its better and has a higher clock speed. it can also be overclocked better because it uses the 45 nm process technology.

  4. Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core is better if you want to play 3D games and run video encoding or other important work side by side or use it for playing chess, as four cores will give high performance for multithreadded games applications especially chess ( you will not see any lag on your computer again with quad core! ) .

If you only want to play games then get Intel® Core™2 E8400. It gives better performance and can be overclocked much more than quad core due to the fabrication process of E8400 being smaller(45nm) than Q6600 (65nm).

In my opinion for making your computer more strong use Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core.
