Which propeller will performed better in a 48 hp motor? which size is better, 12, 13, 14, or 15?

I,m looking for a propeller that would get the most out of my 48 hp Yamaha, we do little races and they told me that propellers are important in the performanced of the boat? but which one to choose, i have my eye on a Silverado - 3 Blade Stainles Steel Propeller Mercury / Quicksilver Merc 25-70* is it good or are there better ones out there

  1. Propellers are very important, and but one factor in the overall system.  For example, a friend of mine had a 200+hp outboard on a bass boat.  Depending on the prop, the top speed varied from barely over 60mph to over 75mph, and like wise the time from dead stop to on plane varied greatly too - the lower top end prop go the boat on plane faster.  In someways, you can think of the prop like the rear gears in a car.

    Factors that go into choosing a particular propeller for an application include:

    * motor rpm for peak hp and torque

    * boat size, drag, weight

    * application: drag boat, cruiser, top speed, skiing, etc.

    You have not provide sufficient information on your application for a recommendation.

  2. i agree on not enough info. get the most out of it how? top end? hole shot? racing? pulling riders?
