  1. Water is transported up the xylem (not phloem). 2 properties of water which help this movement:-

    1.Cohesion  - attraction of water molecules for each other (due to hydrogen bonding between the water molecules). This enables long columns of water in the xylem to hold together and not break.

    2.Adhesion - attraction of the water molecules for the walls of the xylem.
