There must be some digital signaling between my VoIP access point (Linksys SPA2002) and my AT&T SL82408 DECT base station going over the station wires. I have the answering machine capability of the base station turned off and let my VoIP provider's voice mail system take messages. When a new message is saved on that system, the handsets display a "new voice mail" icon.I figure it must be a standard protocol since the Linksys and AT&T systems work together. I don't believe it is part of the DECT standard though, as that appears to only cover the over-the-air part of the interface (i.e. between the handsets and base station). Could be wrong about that though. Thanks!
