Some of the funniest **** I've ever read has appeared in advice columns and relationship articles in my fiancee's Cosmo and Glamour.

By contrast, Maxim knows its audience and readership fairly well.

  1. They all seem full of stereotypical **** aimed at 16 year olds.

  2. Women's mags are a complete joke. It's because women think they know everything about men and they hardly know a thing.

So I'd say men's mags have a much better grasp on the situation.

  3. neither... anyone taking dating advise from these mags deserves the problems they face in relationships... Mike T that includes you and your maxim... jk

  4. Obviously both types know their own readership best, that's a requirement if they want a readership at all. But it's a lot of surface stuff: Men's magazines know what men think about clothes, cars, cooking, sport and give some good advice on health, but it can't dictate political opinions or family matters.

Women's and men's magazines look at the opposite s*x through their own filtered gazes and desires so they're never accurate.

  5. Men's magazine are marketed to men- women's to women.  Cosmo, cleo, etc. will say what they think women want to hear in order to increase circulation.  Ditto with maxim, FHM etc.  Neither have any real insight into the opposite s*x, yet both have a decent understanding of their own target audience.  If you wish to use these magazines as a learning tool, I would suggest that men read the womens mags, and women read the men's mags.

  6. Men's Magazines are more accurate.

Cosmo and other women's magazines teach you how to train and manipulate WEAK men who are probably "pre-whipped" anyway.

A real man never becomes whipped. He will compromise, but he will not become a puppy dog. NEVER

  7. Neither are accurate. Both types tend to focus too much on the stereotypical aspects of each gender. For example, men's magazines focus too much on cars, electronics, and working out. I know many men are not really interested in those subjects just like a lot of women don't care for reading about recipes, makeup tips, and dating.

  8. Neither.

  9. Women's magazines probably offer as much true insight into what men want and how they think as men's magazines offer into what women women want and how they think.

The stuff is written to sell, not to bear any semblance to reality.

  10. Men's.

  11. I don't think either one does. They both just sell stereotypes packaged as truth.

  12. No idea.

Any interesting question with lots of possible research ideas.

    Sash.
