I know that how a rabbit is raised as well as individual personality has a lot to do with whether a rabbit will make a good pet or not. But I, like others, also believe breed has something to do with it. I am considering Holland Lop or a Mini Rex as a pet. Which would you recommend as a pet, and are there any other breeds you would recommend? (they don't have to be mini, though if there are good mini pet breeds that would be great...just no large/giant rabbits, please.)

  1. I have a dwarf rabbit, and she's small, but not as small as a rat ahaha, and she's perfect. I love her, look dwarf rabbit up on google and you'll love them.

  2. Mini Rex have great personalities. They are not aggressive at all. Bucks(males) stay calm their whole lives. Does(feamles) can become a little touchy when they reach breeding age(around 6 months). But that is usually only if they are around other rabbits.

Please when you get ready to purchase your rabbit do not buy from a petstore. Find a reputable breeder, preferably one that belongs to the ARBA. You will get a healthy purebred rabbit that will come with a 3 generation pedigree.

Petstore rabbits come from mill type settings and are mostly mixed breed.

You can look for a show near you on the ARBA website.

  3. Regular or larger breed rabbits tend to be calmer so they make better pets. They will sit still for pets and are easier to hold.

Dwarfs tend to be inbred to make them that small and are prone to certain illnesses like maloclusion. They also do not live as long.

Please adopt and save a life:

  4. holland lops there are sweet and love to be cuddled!

  5. I would go with a Mini-Rex.  They're soft, like to be cuddled, and I have 13 of them.  I have never seen a mean one.
