They're 2 completely different things.  I can see picking between the Derby, Preakness, and Belmont, but how are we supposed to pick between the Oaks and the Derby.  It's the top 3 year old fillies or the top 3 year old colts.  I can't like either one more than the other.

This year and last year, the Oaks looks to be more exciting than the Derby. It's a tough call, and I can't decide either.

Most people say the Derby because of prestige, not what they actually like. I'm thinking a better horse comes out of the Oaks this year than the Derby (excluding a breakout performance or a return to two-year old (or last 1/4 of the Rebel) form from Pyro). She's 8:5-2-1 and if Eight Belles can't do anything significant she's at the top of her division (two strong years in a row for fillies, though last years crop was unusually strong (for this modern era) anyways). Also, the time was good for the slop (same everything as last years; almost a repeat, perhaps).

Sorry for the rant. Anyway, I like both, and the Derby can be more of a cavalry charge sometimes.
