  1. That is personal opinion and every one is going to have different ideas.

It depends on what you look for in a horse.

Pedigree does not make a great racing career.

My horse has a triple crown winner in his lines but it did not make him a great racer. His pedigree is full of really good bloodlines but his career was ok but not great.

  2. rock of gibraltar

  3. Barbaro.

  4. i would have to say a horse foaled this year half sister to street sense out of street cry dam sparkling bedazzle by smart strike curlin and english chanell sire the fillies name is sparkling sense

  5. AP Indy.  By Seattle Slew out of Weekend Surprise.  Weekend Surprise was by Secretariat, out of a Buckpasser mare.

I don't think it gets much better than that.

  6. Pedigree doesn't mean a lot when it comes to racing, and leads to a lot of misspent cash.   I remember a nag by Abernant out of Queenpot, called Emley Moor, which should have been a flyer but was more like a fly in the ointment.

  7. Well Rags to Riches is by AP Indy (with the aforementioned Secretariat line) and out of Better Than Honour who was by Deputy Minister. A really superb pedigree. The thing is, the "best" pedigree is a matter of opinion. Plus, most top race horses have a lot of the same ancestors. It is a pretty small pool at the top. Many horses are going to have great pedigrees and even similar or the same pedigrees since stallions can sire hundreds of foals in their lifetime.

  8. It depends on your definition of a good pedigree.  Is it that the sire and dam are champions, or that the horse has winning siblings?

One of the best pedigrees I have seen is that of the ill-fated HORATIO NELSON:

By the super-sire Danehill out of the Epsom and Irish Oaks winner Imagine.  Imagine herself is a half sister to Epsom Derby winner Generous.

A horse to watch for the future, if her family are anything to go by, is the 2007 filly by Storm Cat out of Hasili.  She is a half-sister to Group 1 winners Intercontinental, Banks Hill, Heat Haze and Cacique, as well as up-coming young sire Dansili.

There cannot be many foals born in 2007 with a better pedigree!
